Compass Alumnus Makes Cannes!
Joshua Courtade, Compass alum and assistant instructor of screenwriting, got an interesting phone call last month. The producer of a film Joshua wrote and directed submitted it to Cannes “on a whim.”
The whim proved to be wisdom as Josh’s film “I Denti” will be screened at the Short Film Corner at this year’s Cannes Film Festival.
Cannes (pronounced like the “Con” in “Con-Air”), arguably the most prestigious film festival in the world, is a pit stop for many of the world’s best films before they are more widely distributed. As part of the Short Film Corner, “I Denti” is not eligible for competition, but, says Josh, “it’s still pretty cool to say that one of the films that I wrote and directed is being screened at Cannes.”
Josh went through Compass in 2005. Afterwards, he moved to Los Angeles where he continued studying screenwriting.
“I Denti” is a comedy about a man with lax moral fiber but exquisite teeth. In Italian with English subtitles, the film questions how far he can rely on his stunning choppers to save him from hairy situations.
