About Us

Compass Arts started in 1997 as a non-profit production company creating promotional films for other non-profit organizations traditionally unable to afford campaigns with high production value. After training a number of interns on set, it was decided to start offering classes in producing and screenwriting. In 2000, Compass Academy was born.

Early on, the Academy only taught a few, multi-week classes. Over time, a Resident Artist program was established to continue mentoring alumni in their careers.

In 2006, Compass rolled out a larger, full-year film curriculum in its move toward a multi-year film program: Compass Film Academy. Staff and Adjunct Faculty were added to further enhance the program. Students in the class of 2008 come from nine different states.

Durning the Fall of 2009, Compass Film Academy became the first film school in the state to gain accreditation from the Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges (ACCSC).
